The Frostlands are the vast frozen territory that serves as the setting of Frostpunk. It is shown as an explorable "world map" of the surrounding area of every settlement. Before a Beacon is built, the Frostlands cannot be interacted with in-game, being neither visible nor explorable, and Scouts cannot be deployed.

The Frostland mainly consists of dead wastelands. Most points of interest are former human locations that either migration or calamities have now left empty. Scouting activities can explore the Frostland and retrieve both resources and people from its many ruins and deserted locations. It is also in the Frostlands that most Steam Cores can be found. People and Steam Cores are in limited supply. Outposts can also be established to provide daily resource shipments, beyond those harvestable in the main settlement.

The United Kingdom and British Empire deployed to the area, with the Royal Engineering Corps constructing Generator towers.

Trivia[ | ]

  • While human survival is exceedingly tough and rare in the Frostlands, some Arctic flora and fauna have definitely survived the winter (some of it posing a threat to the few human survivors). Presumably this is the Raw Food gathered by workers deployed by Hunters' Huts.
  • One of the locations to explore near Winterhome lists the distance to London as "1,937 miles." This could place Winterhome, Tesla City, and New London a few different places: on the island of Svalbard, north of England and the dividing body between the Barents Sea and Greenland Sea. Iceland and Greenland have also been suggested. A lot of evidence points towards the “North” of Canada. A few details being; a location near French speakers, inside the British empire and abundant in coal steel and mainly forests.
