Letters from Home is a event arc that describes the events that triggers around mail received through supply ships.

Troubled father

This arc begins when you receive your first supply shipment.

Sir, supply ships occasionally carry sacks of post destined to the crew, for security reasons, every inbound and outbound mail is opened and read but we may sometimes require instructions from you regarding our censorship policy. In this case, a worker received a letter from his wife informing him that one of his daughters is gravely ill. Dire news such as this may impact the morale of the crew. Should we redact the part about the sick daughter?

You will have the following options:

  • Don't censor the letter. Motivation will fall slightly.
  • Censor the letter. Discontent will rise.

Troubled father 2: 2Trouble2Father

If you didn't censor the letter from Troubled father.

Sir, the distraught father of the sick child wants to talk to you. He begs you to let him go home: "I know it means giving up this here job, but I'll figure something out. Me fam'ly needs me, sir. Please lemme get back to 'em."

You will have the following options:

  • Yes. Lose one worker
  • Keep working - doctors cost money. Discontent will rise.

Grateful father

If you allowed the father to go home and see his daughter.

Sir, we have news about the father of the sick child you allowed to go home. He wrote one of his friends that his daughter did not make it, but he's grateful that he could be there to hold her hand. Our people appreciate that you made the right call.

You will have the following options:

  • I see. Discontent falls slightly.

A taste of home

Triggers after the fourth supply ship?

Sir, although many people back home are facing starvation, a well-off relative of one of our engineers sent him a large parcel full with treats. Should we hold on to the food? It may stir trouble or, God forbid, fuel a parallel economy.

You will have the following options:

  • Give the man his parcel.
  • Confiscate the parcel. Discontent will rise, we'll get 50 food rations.

End of a world

Triggers after the sixth supply ship?

Sir, an engineer received a letter from relatives in India. They explain that a sudden frost devastated their plantation and they are going back to England, as the colony is descending into chaos and the population is rising up against the British rule. Surely we cannot let such information impact the morale of our people.

You will have the following options:

  • Censor the letter.
  • Don't censor the letter. Discontent will rise.

End of a world

Unknown trigger.

Sir, a shocking letter arrived from the Manchest Constabulatory. It appears that one of our engineers is a suspect in several gruesome murders! The police wants to question him and is asking us to send him back in the first outbound ship. The man claims he's innocent, obviously. What should we do?

You will have the following options:

  • Send him back. We'll lose 1 engineer.
  • Keep him. Discontent will rise.
