New Manchester is an event arc in The Arks.

A figure in the distance[ | ]

Beacon Report - A figure in the distance

Shortly after the city is autonomous, a figure will appear in the distance.

Sir, we've noticed something in the distance: a small black dot in the white desert moving slowly towards us.

It's possible it might be a survivor.

You have the following options:

  • Wait and see

A cry for help[ | ]

New Manchester - A cry for help

When the figure makes it to your city, this event will trigger.

Sir, an exhausted man has just reached our city, badly frostbitten and with a harrowing story to tell.

He says he's come from a nearby city called New Manchester. It's inhabited mostly by workers and their families, but their resources are running out and they're in trouble. Fearing the coming storm, they sent a scout team to look for help - he's the sole survivor. He begs us to help his people.

You have the following options:

  • We must find out more

Saving the messenger[ | ]

New Manchester - Saving the messenger

After the messenger explains New Manchester's plight, this event will trigger.

Captain, the man who arrived from New Manchester is in critical condition. If he doesn't get help right away, he'll die. He could be our only chance to learn more about the other city.

You have the following options:

  • Let's hope we can save him

The messenger is dead[ | ]

New Manchester - The messenger is dead

If the messenger dies, this event will trigger.

Captain, the survivor from New Manchester has died. It's our fault. We didn't do enough to save him.

You have the following options:

The messenger lives (recovered)[ | ]

If the messenger recovers from sickness but is amputated, this event will trigger.

Captain, we've saved the life of the survivor from New Manchester. He's thankful, even though we had to amputate his arm.

Thank you. If I was in New Manchester, I'd have died. We don't have the means to save victims of deep frostbite." His city seems to be dangerously undeveloped.

You have the following options:

  • I see

The messenger lives (able)[ | ]

New Manchester - The messenger lives

Once the messenger makes a full recovery, including being fitted with a Prostheses if he is amputated, this event will trigger.

Captain, we've managed to treat the messenger from New Manchester. He's made a full recovery.

Thank you. If I'd been in New Manchester, I'd have died. We don't have the means to treat such deep frostbite." His city seems to be dangerously undeveloped.

You have the following options:

  • I see: Hope rises.

Helping at what cost?[ | ]

New Manchester - Helping at what cost

After the messenger explains his plight, the city will be faced with this decision.

Sir, some of our people are restless. They argue that with the storm closing in, we won't be able to succeed in our mission and help New Manchester at the same time.

They understand it's a difficult decision, but they want to know what your priority will be when we have to choose.

You have the following options:

  • I won't endanger our mission: Hope will fall
  • We can't abandon people in need: Discontent will rise

A difficult choice[ | ]

If you provide for your city before you find New Manchester, this event will trigger.

Sir, we've gathered enough resources to survive the storm, but we haven't found New Manchester yet. We could continue the search for a while longer, but perhaps it's time to call it off.

You have the following options:

  • Continue the search: The search will continue for a while.
  • End the search: The search will be cancelled and our mission will end.

A dying city[ | ]

New Manchester - A dying city

When you scout New Manchester, this event will trigger.

A dimly glowing Generator stands in the middle of a shanty town. There are so many people here... too many. They look sick, underfed and most of them don't have a proper roof over their heads.

Nothing can save them from the storm. Except us.

You'll have the following options:

  • We must focus on our own survival: We have our own problems.
  • We will try to help them: We will leave New Manchester for now, but we'll do our best to send help.

Doing what's right[ | ]

New Manchester - Doing what's right

If you chose "We must focus on our own survival" in "A dying city," this event will trigger. If the survivor is still alive, it will read:

Sir, the survivor from New Manchester wants to speak to you.

I know you have your mission and it's important, but My people will die if you don't help them. You can't leave them on their own. You just can't. It's about doing what's right."

If the survivor is dead, it will read:

Sir, a woman who looked after the survivor from New Manchester wants to speak to you.

We couldn't save him, but we can still help his people. Don't let his sacrifice be in vain. It's about doing what's right.

You have the following options:

  • We will try to help them: Hope will rise slightly.
  • Our mission comes first: Discontent will fall slightly

Another expedition is coming[ | ]

New Manchester - Another expedition is coming

If you chose "Our mission comes first" in "Doing what's right," this event will trigger next.

Sir, a small group of people is on its way to our city. They're some distance away and moving very slowly, likely due to exhaustion. They are coming from the direction of New Manchester.

You have the following options:

  • I see

Lost expedition[ | ]

New Manchester - Lost expedition

Shortly after "Another expedition is coming," the expedition will disappear and this event will trigger.

Sir, the second New Manchester expedition has disappeared without a trace - we're almost certain they died trying to reach us. They were too weak to survive in this cold. Our people are shocked by the news.

So many people are suffering and dying. Is there really nothing we can do for them?

You have the following options:

  • We will try to help them: Hope will rise slightly.
  • They are on their own: Hope will fall slightly

Note, if you select "They are on their own," you will have effectively abandoned helping New Manchester at this point.

The messenger has left[ | ]

New Manchester - The messenger has left

This event will trigger after you select "They are on their own" if the messenger is still alive.

Sir, the man who came from New Manchester has left our city with some basic supplies. He asked us to pass on a note to you.

"This is how the world ends - when ideals are more important than people. May God forgive you, for we won't."

You have the following options:

  • It was the right thing to do

People question your choice[ | ]

If you haven't completed any of the New Manchester objectives after an extended period of time, this event will trigger.

Sir, everyone feels for the poor frostbitten bastard who's arrived, but some of our people doubt whether we can afford to divert resources from our mission to protect the Seedling Arks.

You have the following options:

  • It won't hurt to look: Discontent will rise slightly

Building materials needed[ | ]

New Manchester - Building materials needed

If you decide to help New Manchester, from A dying city, Doing what's right, or Lost expedition, if the messenger is still alive this event will trigger sometime as you complete the first objective.

Captain, the man from New Manchester is here. He's asking you to help his city.

"I know you have an important mission, but the people in New Manchester won't survive without your help. You have enough supplies to send us a relief expedition with building materials."

You have the following options:

  • Our mission has a higher priority: Discontent will fall slightly
  • We'll see what we can do: Hope will rise slightly.

People oppose you[ | ]

New Manchester - People oppose you

After you complete the first quest objective - to send wood and steel to New Manchester - this event will trigger.

Sir, the concerned engineers are here again. They argue that sending supplies to New Manchester endangers our mission.

"We came here ready to give our lives so that the earth can be reborn! We can't forfeit it all now! Please, show us that you understand the importance of our mission.

You have the following options:

  • We can't let down people in need: Discontent will rise. Hope will fall.
  • I won't endanger our mission: You will have to keep at least 6 automatons working in the city.

Food aid needed[ | ]

This event will trigger sometime as you complete your second objective if the messenger is still alive.

Captain, the man from New Manchester wants to talk to you about helping his city.

"My people are starving. I know that you have enough Food Rations to help them. I'm afraid of what might happen to them if you don't. Please, send food to New Manchester."

You have the following options:

  • Our mission has a higher priority: Discontent will fall slightly
  • We'll see what we can do: Hope will rise slightly.

Change of heart[ | ]

New Manchester - Change of heart

If you selected "I won't endanger our mission" during "People oppose you," this event will trigger after you complete the second objective.

Sir, the engineers who opposed your decision to help New Manchester are here once again to see you.

"You promised to focus on our mission, and you stayed true to your word. We're sorry we doubted you. It seems we do have a chance of helping them after all. We'll do whatever it takes!"

You have the following options:

  • Let's get to work!: The efficiency of Workshops rises by 20%. Hope rises.

People protest[ | ]

New Manchester - People protest

If you selected "We can't let people down in need" during "People oppose you," this event will trigger after you complete the second objective.

Sir, a group of 13 engineers is here to protest against your decision to send supplies out of the city. They want you to stop.

"We were sent here with a mission! We know the poor people in New Manchester will die without our help, but by helping them we risk the future of mankind!"

You have the following options:

  • I will stop sending aid: You will fail all New Manchester quests
  • I will keep sending aid: Discontent will rise greatly. Hope will fall.

Coal needed[ | ]

New Manchester - Coal needed

This event will trigger sometime as you complete your third objective if the messenger is still alive.

Captain, the man from New Manchester has come. He wants you to help the people of his city.

"You have enough Coal to send help to New Manchester. Without it, they may not survive the coming storm. Is there anything more valuable than human life?"

You have the following options:

  • Our mission has a higher priority: Discontent will fall slightly
  • We'll see what we can do: Hope will rise slightly.

Time is running out[ | ]

New Manchester - Time is running out

If you are close to running out of time and haven't send any aid to New Manchester, this event will trigger. If the messenger is alive:

Sir, the messenger from New Manchester wants to talk to you.

The clock is ticking, yet you're doing nothing to help New Manchester. I'm begging you, don' t let my people die.

If the messenger is dead, this flavour will trigger.

Sir, some of our people want to talk to you about New Manchester.

The clock is ticking, yet we're doing nothing to help New Manchester. Are we going to let all those poor people die?

You have the following options:

  • I'll see what I can do

Voice of support[ | ]

New Manchester - Voice of support

This event will trigger after you finish helping New Manchester.

Sir, we found a letter to you. It's unsigned.

"Sir, I wholeheartedly support your decision to help New Manchester. I know of many others who do, but they admit to it only in private, shamed into silence by those who see compassion as weakness."

You have the following options:

  • I'm glad i'm not alone
