Settlements are a new mechanic that were added to Frostpunk for the On The Edge (Expansion), and can be accessed through the On The Edge Scenario or through Endless mode.
Mechanics[]
To communicate with a settlement, you must first have an Administration (Building) and Transport Depot built, and send a Construction Team to their location to build a Transport Depot on their end.
Favour[]
Settlements might be able to assist you in several ways. However, keep in mind that making requests that are too large in size or number will quickly exhaust their willingness to help. This is shown as Favour – the higher it is, the larger the request and amount of requests they can fulfil. Each accepted request will lower the settlement’s Favour. When their Favour is low, you have to wait. Favour will rise over time.
Favour is shown as one of three states: High, Average, and Low. When Favour falls slightly, it will drop one level. When Favour is exhausted, it will drop to Low.
Favour will only rise at 0:00 or 12:00 on any given day, taking 2.5 days to rise from Low to High.
Relations[]
You will be asked to make many decisions which will affect other settlements. Depending on your choices, your relations with these settlements will change. Choices which align with their goals and principles will make them more loyal to you, while imposing your own world-view will cause them to become more distrustful. Remember that both choices can be valid, depending on what you want to achieve.
Relations is shown as one of six states: Loyal, Friendly, Neutral, Cautious, and Distrustful. Your Relation with New London is always "Home City."
Relations do very little apart from Loyal, which has two effects. In the On The Edge scenario, a Loyal settlement will assist you in the final quest. In Endless mode, a Loyal settlement can assist other settlements in emergencies. Additionally, there are some achievements that require certain Relations.

There are three main settlements that can be contacted and traded with. Additionally, New London functions as a settlement in On The Edge, however has slightly different mechanics.

- We need to tend to the gravely ill (if there are gravely ill)
